AMCAT Known as Aspiring Minds Computer Adaptive Test, the exam evaluates aspiring job seekers on the basis of aptitude, reasoning and technical skills. In a nutshell, the examination does an employability assessment. Candidates are examined on the basis of a statistical approach.

AMCAT tests students from different fields in various domains with the help of in-depth micro analysis in each domain.

The test consists of various sections/modules which you can choose according to your profile or education background. There are certain modules which are compulsory for everyone (Language and Aptitude Modules), whereas others are optional. During the test, you will be given an option to select any two domain-specific modules.

The candidate’s skills were tested in the areas of Communication, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative and Job-specific domain skills helping the recruiters in the selection process. Eligibility for AMCAT test

There are no eligibility criteria as such to take up the pH test. Currently, only candidates having/pursuing any bachelor’s degree will benefit from the AMCAT test.

When the AMCAT exam is conducted?

AMCAT exam is conducted in 30 cities every month on Saturdays and Sundays with various time slots. But due to lockdown in the country, you can write the AMCAT on your system at your home as per your convenient time (4 slots in a day). So I recommend it is the best time to go for AMCAT you can attempt the test as per your flexibility with respect to time and place.

AMCAT Test Pattern

The Duration of the AMCAT exam is around 3 hours. Objective type questions are asked in a question paper with no negative marking. If one wants to reappear for the exam, a candidate needs to wait for at least 45 days from its first attempt. Maximum 3 times, AMCAT exam can be given in a calendar year.

AMCAT Test Syllabus | Exam Pattern:

In AMCAT paper, there will be various sections in that two sections are optional and others are mandatory for every steam students.

Compulsory Section

The compulsory section is common for all stream students no matter what background you are from and what kind of job profile you are looking for

It consists of multiple modules-

Optional Section

In this section, we are going to talk only about the section which is helpful to get into IT job.

It is recommended that you go through the module description and befitting job profiles before you go to take the AMCAT. Your choice of modules increases your visibility for a particular kind of jobs, for instance, if you take the Programming Module, you will be visible to more IT companies.

Compulsory Section

1: English

In this module, they evaluate your command over the English language

This module consist: Total Questions:18 & Duration:18 minutes


· Vocabulary (Synonyms, Antonyms, Contextual Vocabulary)

· Reading Comprehension

2: Quantitative Ability Tech

The module is ideal to evaluate the numerical ability of an individual and is available in both technical and non-technical.

This module consist: Total Questions:16 & Duration:20 minutes


· Basic Mathematics (Divisibility, HCF and LCM, Numbers, Decimal fraction, Power)

· Applied Mathematics (Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Time Speed and Distance, Inverse)

· Engineering Mathematics (Logarithms, Permutation and Combination, Probability)

3: Logical Ability

The module evaluates the capacity of a candidate to interpret things objectively and be able to analyze assumptions behind an argument/statement.

This module consist: Total Questions:12 & Duration:15 minutes


· Deductive Reasoning (Coding deductive logic, Data Sufficiency, Directional Sense, Logical Word Sequence, Objective Reasoning, Selection decision tables, Puzzles)

· Inductive reasoning (Analogy Pattern Recognition, Classification Pattern Recognition, Coding Pattern Recognition, Number Series Pattern Recognition)

4. Quantitative Ability

The module is ideal to assess the capacity of an individual the numerical ability of an individual.

This module consist: Total Questions:14 & Duration:20 minutes

· Basic Numbers (Numbers, Decimal Fractions)

· Applied Mathematics (Word Problem Interest, Word Problem Inverse, Word Problem Profit, Word Problem Speed, Word Problems)

· Number Theory (Divisibility, HCF and LCM)

5. Information Gathering & Synthesis

The module tests the candidate’s ability to gather, comprehend and evaluate information from single or multiple sources. This checks whether the candidate is able to locate relevant information, order and classify data, interpret graphs, charts and tables and make rule-based deductions. The information and data could be presented in any format: text, numbers, tables, figures etc.

This module consist: Total Questions:12 & Duration:15 minutes

· Data Interpretation

· Information Ordering

· Information Processing

6. Aspiring Minds Personality Inventory (AMPI)

The module does an overall personality assessment of the candidate and is used to assess candidates in people-interaction and people-management roles.

This module consist: Total Questions:90 & Duration:20 minutes

AMPI: Aspiring Minds Personality Inventory is based on the five-factor model of personality. In short in this module, they will be going to test your personality based on various factors. AMPI measures five broad-based traits:

· Extraversion

· Conscientiousness

· Neuroticism

· Openness to Experience

· Agreeableness

Optional Section

1. Computer Programming

In this module, the candidate has to fix logical/ syntax error of the code or complete the given code by reusing existing functions.

This module consist: Total Questions:7 & Duration:20 minutes


· Basic programming

· Control Structures

· Conditional statements

· Linear data structures

· Advanced data structures

· Sorting and searching algorithms

2. Computer Science

This module evaluates the on basic knowledge and understanding of computer science including concepts of operating system and computer architecture, database management and computer networks.

This module consist: Total Questions:20 & Duration:20 minutes


· Operating System & Computer Architecture (Basics of O.S, Computer Architecture, I/O and File Management, Memory Management, Process Communication and Synchronization, Process Management)

· DBMS ( Basic concept, Data model, Views, Operation, TRC, DRC, Architecture, Normalization, Generalization, ERD, Key, Database, SQL, Joins, Indexing)

· Computer Networks (Basics of Computer Networks & Communication, Routing, Reference Network Model and Protocols)

Study Material

The best way to prepare for AMCAT Compulsory is trying to solve 10th Class level NCERT questions for the compulsory section.

If you want to study more then you refer some standard aptitude books like R. S Agrawal.

For computer science, you can refer your university-level books at a certain level.

For programming learn the concepts and do much practice on the above-mentioned topic.


1. Try to score above 550-600 in every section as this is considered good in the company's viewpoint.

2. You can choose the maximum of two minimum one domain from your area of study. But recommended choosing two it will help companies to judge and shortlist your profile easily.

3. In AMCAT speed matters you have to solve these many questions in a very short amount of time. So definitely the level of question will be easy.

4. There will be no negative marking in AMCAT so no need to skip any question.

5. If you attempt 60- 70 % questions correctly then you will get many opportunities.
